This month we are celebrating fabulous and inspirational women along the Stellenbosch Wine Route.

Meet Pinkie, Braai Master at Middelvlei.

Q: How did you get started in the wine business?

Was a recommendation by another colleague in the catering business.

Q: Which wine was your "a-ha!" wine – the one that made you love wine?

I am not a wine drinker but love Middelvlei Free Run Pinotage.

Q:  What are the most rewarding aspects of your work?

Cooking or braaiing good food, steak is my speciality.

Q: If you weren't in the wine industry, what would you be doing?

Community work, especially among the very poor people.

Q: What advice would you give to young women considering the industry as a profession?

Hard work! Weekends and public holidays for the lucky ones.

Q: If you could open a bottle of wine and share it, with who will it be?

My colleague Thom and Hillary.

Q: What do you think makes Stellenbosch Wine Route unique compared to other wine regions?

Stellenbosch is a nice place and the people are very friendly!

Q: What are the most rewarding aspects of your work?

Seeing the guests enjoying my braai.

Q: What is your go-to bottle of wine?

The Middelvlei Free Run Pinotage.

Q: What's one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I am actually a very shy and private person.
