Views for days along the Stellenbosch Wine Routes
So… the weekend is once again upon us and we are enjoying the last of the summery days. Are you planning anything special for the weekend? Here are some recommendations for visits to farms offering spectacular views…
The views from the deck are guaranteed to take your breath away; located between Stellenbosch and Somerset West on the R44, Cavalli looks over rolling vine-covered hills towards the Helderberg Mountains. From the moment visitors enter through the gates, one is struck by the beautifully curated indigenous landscaping, the very neat plantings and pristine equestrian centre.
Taste wine in their very chic tasting room and a snazzy collection of Scottish fire-water (not available for tasting). Be sure to make time and stroll through the art gallery with spectacular works of art on display and be embraced by the eau-de-Cavalli which caresses your senses as you enter the beautiful modern and minimalist space. Or sit yourself down for a fabulous culinary experience offered up by Chef Michael Deg.
In the heart of the Devon Valley, this lovely winery offers beautiful views over vineyards with a few cypress trees on a distant hill top. The view makes me think of Italy, not sure why but it is somewhat romantic and definitely inspiring.
The restaurant offers value for money food & wine experiences with exciting combinations (check out the autumn a la carte menu and the pairing menu). Or try out their Ice Cream & Wine Pairing at R85 per person (not available on Sundays). It is now a signature pairing with seasonal, home-made delicacies. Booking for these tastings are essential, so please call 021- 865 2022 in advance to book.
Whether you visit Glenelly for a wine tasting or for a meal, the views are spectacular; even from the cool bunker-like cellar, you can see the majestic Jonkershoek mountains through the ceiling to floor height windows.
Wine tasting room is situated on the first floor where professional but friendly staff will take you through the delicious wines (we can’t choose favourites but never say “no” to the Unwooded Chardonnay and Estate Blend. Linger a while and tuck into a cheese platter while drinking in the beautiful vies. The Vine Bistro offers a small menu of deliciously French inspired dishes that change regularly depending on what is in season.
Beautiful views are not hard to find in the Stellenbosch Wine Routes, but the views from Hidden Valley is a panoramic splendaciouness all the way from Table Mountain, across the hills and valleys of Stellenbosch to the dramatic Helderberg mountain-scape against which Hidden Valley is situated.
Equally fabulous when you are lounging on the terrace for a wine tasting or sweeten your experience with a wine and chocolate pairing; indulging in a decadent charcuterie and cheese platter or celebrating he popular Summer Sundowners – coming to an end on Friday, 23 March.
Be sure to book and enjoy the last days of summer with this #HiddenGem. Booking is essential: 021 880 2646 or email@example.com
Another great vantage point and glorious views of the surrounding mountains and vineyards – Ernie Els does not disappoint. From the moment you park your car, the landscaping and walk ways draw you in. Walking through the big winery doors and down the entrance passage, the most beautiful view opens up to you. From the sunny terrace, you will be drawn by the sweeping views over Stellenbosch and out towards Table Mountain.
Sit down, relax, and extend your stay while tasting through the range of Ernie Els wines and enjoying a cheese platter or order something to sooth the hunger pangs… you will not be sorry.
This is just the tip of the iceberg and there is definitely no shortage of mind blowing vistas. Stellenbosch offers drama, splendour, inspiration, and awe… so go out – #VisitStellenbosch to explore and discover and be sure to share your favourite spots from where to enjoy sunsets and sun rises and spending the last days of summer.
