Seven Days of Shiraz & Venison

Shiraz SA is the official association and mouthpiece for all producers and aficionados of South African Shiraz. The organization is devoted to creating an awareness for the superior and award-winning wines produced locally from this noble cultivar.

Seven Days of Shiraz & Venison is celebrated from 10 to 16 June 2019. An opportunity second to none to find out why Shiraz and South African venison is an unrivalled match, Here is a list of what Stellenboch Wine Routes members has to offer for Shiraz week:

Avontuur

Avontuur is joining in the fun with a tutored tasting planned for Saturday 15 June which will highlight the different styles and ageability of Avontuur’s Shiraz wines from 2008 till now.

This is an opportunity for Shiraz lovers to interact with Avontuur’s winemaker Jan van Rooyen and learn more about the intricacies of this hugely popular red wine varietal in South Africa and world-wide.   

Guests will arrive from 10h30 on Saturday morning and will receive a welcome drink after which the tutored tasting will be presented, filled with interesting titbits and information.  After the tasting, guests will enjoy a charcuterie platter and have time to chat to fellow Shiraz fans and Jan himself, who is always willing to share more info if visitors are keen! Tasting is limited to 20 participants and cost R150 pp. Bookings are essential!

Avontuur’s tasting room is offering a special 3-pack of the Dominion Royale Shiraz Reserve 2014 at R600, instead of the usual R720, so if you can’t get to the farm on the 15th, feel free to order it via email or come in on another day this month to grab a few bottles to enjoy at home.

Delheim

Delheim will be offering a Restaurant and Tasting room special from 10 – 14 June:

Lunch offer at the restaurant will consist of Springbok Loin served with a complimentary glass of Delheim Shiraz.

Neethlingshof

This year you are in for a treat at The Restaurant at Neethlingshof as they also celebrate #ShirazandVenison week from 11 - 13 June 2019:

A 3-course meal, including a glass of  #ShirazSA Top 10 Neethlingshof Shiraz, for R395 per person.

The Menu consists of:

Kudu Carpaccio with edamame puree, compressed cucumber, spring onion, ponzu gel and sago crisps.
Shiraz Sorbet.
Deboned Springbok Shank with harissa, charred cauliflower, sumac yoghurt, medjool date & pine nut salsa and pearl cous-cous.
Choice of dessert off the a la carte menu.
Coffee / Tea

You can also order only the main course with a glass of Shiraz for R220pp but we would strongly advise having all three courses as they are all amazing!

The restaurant is open daily for lunch and for dinner on Wednesday, Friday & Saturdays. Bookings are essential.

Oldenburg

To celebrate 7 Days of Shiraz & Venison, Oldenburg Vineyards will be offering a special tasting of three of our Syrahs (Oldenburg Vineyards 2014, Oldenburg Vineyards 2015 and Rondekop Stone Axe 2016), served with a tapas-style dish of smoked venison carpaccio, blush tomato, garlic emulsion and shaved parmesan.

Zevenwacht

Join Zevenwacht Wine Estate for their Tasting room & Restaurant specials from 10 - 16 June.

In the Tatsing room you will be spoiled with a Venison Biltong & Carpaccio paired with 3 Syrah based wines at R60.00 per person.

The restaurant will be offering two food options together with a 250ml carafe of wine:

A Venison pie, which will be accompanied by a pumpkin fritter and seasonal vegetables for only R175 and it includes a 250ml carafe of Tin Mine Red (Syrah blend).

The second option is a chargrilled Eland loin, accompanied by a potato fondant, caramelised baby carrots with a blueberry and shiraz jus and a 250ml carafe of Syrah for only R240.
